How to add page numbers to a PDF
Page numbers make it easier to discuss a report: everyone can find the same passage. Finalize the page order first and keep an original copy.
Choose a position and format
SnipPDF adds a number to each page at the top or bottom, aligned left, center or right. Choose a simple number or a format that includes the total. Set the starting number and text size to suit the available margins.
Example: a five-page report
Your report is in the right order but has no page numbers. You want to refer to individual pages in a message.
Choose bottom center, the simple format and a starting number of 1. The pages receive numbers 1 through 5. Check that they do not overlap text or existing footers.
Add numbers with SnipPDF
- Open Number pages and add your final PDF.
- Choose the position, format, starting number and text size.
- Run the numbering tool and download the copy.
- Check the first, last and narrow-margin pages in a PDF reader.
Covers and existing numbers
Numbering applies to every page, including the cover. To leave the cover unnumbered, extract the body, number it, then merge it with the cover first. The tool does not erase existing numbers or update the table of contents. The “Page n” format uses the English word “Page” in the output.
Where is the file processed?
This tool processes the document in your browser without sending its contents to the server for this operation. See the file processing page for other tools.
