Why flatten a PDF before sending it?
Have you completed a form and want to share a copy without interactive fields? Flattening can help. Keep the original so you can revise your answers later.
What does flattening a PDF form mean?
Flattening incorporates the current field values into the page content. Those fields can no longer be filled in as a form in the resulting copy. This can be useful for sharing a reading copy or preparing a printout, after checking the result.
Example: an application form
Before: the Name field contains “Samira”. Clicking the field still lets someone type a different answer.
After successful flattening: “Samira” appears as page content and the form field is gone. A PDF editor may still change that text.
How to flatten your PDF with SnipPDF
- Save your completed form and keep an original copy.
- Open Flatten PDF and add the file.
- Run the tool and download the result with a different filename.
- Open the result in a PDF reader. Check every value and confirm that the fields are no longer interactive before sending it.
What flattening does not guarantee
Flattening is neither encryption nor edit protection. The tool targets form fields, not every comment, stamp or annotation. A file without fields is simply saved again. Some malformed forms may also be saved without being flattened, so always inspect the copy. Do not use this operation as a guarantee that a digital signature remains valid.
Where is the file processed?
The flattening tool processes the document in your browser without sending its contents to the server for this operation. Other SnipPDF tools may work differently; see the file processing information page.
How your files are handledFlattening or password protection?
Flattening removes field interactivity. A password controls opening the document. Choose according to your needs; neither operation should be described as an absolute guarantee against all edits.
