How it works
The PDF is parsed in lax mode (invalid or malformed objects are skipped rather than causing a hard failure) and a clean re-saved copy is written out. Many "won't open" errors come from trailing garbage bytes or off-by-one cross-reference tables that this fixes.
Common use cases
- Recovering a PDF that a browser or email client corrupted during download.
- Fixing a file exported from a broken PDF generator that most viewers refuse to open.
- Cleaning up a PDF with trailing junk bytes appended by a misbehaving process, before archiving or sharing.
Privacy
This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your PDF is never uploaded to our servers — the file stays on your device from start to finish.

Most people pair Repair PDF with Compress PDF, PDF info and Protect PDF.
FAQ
Will this recover any broken PDF?
No — the tool handles the common "soft" errors (malformed objects, off-by-one xref, trailing bytes). A genuinely truncated file or one with corrupted content streams cannot be recovered.
Is the output identical to a healthy version of the file?
Structurally yes for the fixable errors — pdf-lib re-serialises the objects into a clean PDF. Visually the pages match what a lenient viewer would have shown before the fix.
